I started exclusively doing FASE reading with my class this year. I thought my struggling readers would not go for it. Now, I have three or four students that have their hands up nonstop to read during any lesson. It is powerful. I love getting a chance to hear them all read multiple times a week.
I love that! I am still surprised they ALL want to read. I even have a couple students who still struggle with decoding, but love to read out loud. So I just help them with the words they get stuck on, and they keep going.
I was surprised when I first started teaching back in 2017, how much I truly loved reading out loud. I have a sped student that on the first day of school we were FASE reading the class syllabus. I called on her to read and she asked “Do I have to?” I said yes, but don’t worry I will help you. She choral read with me, now she wants to read aloud every time we are doing it. It is amazing.
Thank you for this - awesome list of resources!
Of course! I’m glad you find it helpful.
